Port Operations

Sabah Ports Sdn. Bhd. (Sabah Ports), a subsidiary of Suria Capital Holdings Berhad took over the State's port operations from Sabah Ports Authority through the privitisation exercise in September 2004.

The subsidiary company operates and manages the 8 ports in strategic locations around Sabah namely:

  • Sapangar Bay Oil Terminal
  • Kota Kinabalu Port
  • Sandakan Port
  • Tawau Port
  • Lahad Datu Port

  • Kudat Port

Sabah Ports Sdn. Bhd. offers a wide spectrum of professional port services as follows:

  • Labour provision
  • Storage facilities

The types of cargo being handled include:

  • Liquid Cargo (especially palm oil & petroleum)

Since the privatisation exercise, the subsidiary has been focusing on streamlining port operations and enhancing services with the acquisition of new state-of-the-art cargo handling equipment, upgrading of cargo handling facilities and investing in manpower training to provide a better port experience for its clients.

In 2016, the Federal Government has approved a total funding of RM1.134 billion for the development of Sapangar Bay Container Port as a Transshipment Hub. The expansion project is expected to increase the container handling capacity from 500,000 TEUs to 1.25 million TEUs a year.

Sabah Ports is supported by S.P. Satria Sdn Bhd (S.P. Satria), an ISO-certified subsidiary that is involved in the supply and maintenance of port equipment, including the latest and sophisticated machinery. On the other hand, Sabah Ports' other subsidiary SP Marine Services Sdn. Bhd., provides bunkering services, waste oil management and oil spill recovery services. The two subsidiaries work in synergy to provide coordinated, integrated and efficient value-added services that make our ports the preferred ports in the region.

Going forward, we will emphasize on green port initiatives as part of our sustainability measures to help protect the environment in addition to contributing to the social and economic development of the State. Amongst these, fuel consumption will be reduced by electrification of some of our cargo handling equipment and utilisation of solar panels to generate power.
