Sabah Ports created yet another major milestone in her records of achievement through her dedicated container port, Sapangar Bay Container Port (SBCP) with the handling of the 1 millionth TEUs container which was unloaded from vessel M.V. Lantau Ace on 2nd March 2012. This milestone is a significant development in the operations of SBCP showing a steady increase in the annual total containers imported and exported through the port. About 100 invitees turned up for the historic event which was officiated by the Group Managing Director, Datuk Dr Mohd Fowzi Hj Razi and witnessed by Chief Operating Officer, En. Mohd Sahid Hj Nawab Khan, Executive Director of S.P. Satria Sdn. Bhd., En. Loh Boon Hon, Senior Manager (SBCP), En. Muyau Garudin , representatives of port users, shipping agents, government agencies and Port officials.
The 1 millionth TEU is the cumulative total container throughput handled at the container port since it commenced operation in July 2007 up to 2nd March 2012. In rendering better services to our port users, a considerable amount of budget has been allocated to acquire additional units of these machines this year and in 2013 to complement the existing equipment fleet at the port and elevate the ship side handling rate at SBCP. The existing container yard will also be extended this year to cater for the anticipated increase in the container throughput in the coming years while works to extend the existing jetty is anticipated to commence in 2015.
