Sabah Ports Sdn Bhd received Deputy Chief Minister of Sabah cum Minister of Infrastructure Development, YB Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan for a briefing on the expansion programme of Sapangar Bay Container Port (SBCP). A project under the 11th Malaysia Plan, construction work for the first stage will commence in early 2017 with expected completion by 2019. The project will involve the berth expansion from the current 500M to 1.2KM to accommodate cruise ships and an enlarged stacking area from 15 hectares to 60 hectares. The undertaking is anticipated to attract international Main line Operators to hub at SBCP, thus positioning SBCP as the transshipment hub for eastern gateways. Present were the Ministry’s Assistant Minister Datuk Ghulam Haidar Khan Bahadar, Chairman of Sabah Ports Sdn. Bhd. Datuk Karim Hj Bujang and SuriaGroup Chief Executive Officer Mdm Ng Kiat Min.

SBCP was recognized for the numerous green initiatives taken such as the installation of electrical Rubber Tyred Gantry Cranes, usage of LED lighting and implementation of the
Autostore Terminal Operating System which minimizes paper consumption. The APSN council further noted SBCP’s active engagement in ecological conservation through projects such as seagrass transplanting, mangrove restoration and rehabilitation projects across the port locality.
