SK Gentisan English Week Closing Ceremony

What is more beneficial way to end the school semester if not with a fun and educational program? Themed “English is Fun & Awesome!”, SK Gentisan, Teluk Sepanggar held an English Week program for its pupil to learn and use English outside the classroom through fun and engaging communicative activities. The aim is to boost their confidence in using the English language not only for the purpose of examination but also to prepare them for the real world.

Some of the activities conducted were Short Reading Competition, Spelling Bee, English Song Karaoke, Compound Word and ‘Oh My Dictionary!’. The program received an overwhelming response from the students and was made possible through the efforts of the English Department lead by their Head, Ms Nelly Midir and supported by the Headmistress, Pn Hjh Tamina Rasneh.

As for Suria Capital Holdings Berhad (Suria), this is another opportunity to support rural school by giving contribution in terms of dictionaries and prizes for the program. On 24th October 2018 the English Week has come to the end and Suria was invited to officiate the closing ceremony represented by Datin Mariam Mahmun (Head,Group Corporate Affairs & Communication).

In her speech, Pn Hjh Tamina expresses her gratitude for Suria’s continues contribution to support the school educational program. She also encourages students to improve themselves in English as it is used for communication nationwide and a lot of information from outside the country is shared in English language.

Datin Mariam also added the importance to master English language at young age as it open for a diverse spectrum to further study as well as a stepping stone in career path not only limited in domestic but also internationally.

Sapangar Bay Container Port was announced as the Winner of the Green Port Award System (GPAS) for Year 2019 at the APEC Port Services Network (APSN) Forum held on 24 September 2019 at Cusco, Peru. The award was presented by Ms. Maria Jara Risco, the Minister of Transport and Communications of Peru and Mr. Tan Cheng Peng, the First Vice-President of the APSN Council, witnessed by Mr. Edgar Patino, the Chairman of the Board of the National Port Authority of Peru and Mr. Fei Weijun, the Secretary- General of APSN to representatives of Sabah Ports Sdn Bhd.

SBCP was recognized for the numerous green initiatives taken such as the installation of electrical Rubber Tyred Gantry Cranes, usage of LED lighting and implementation of the
Autostore Terminal Operating System which minimizes paper consumption. The APSN council further noted SBCP’s active engagement in ecological conservation through projects such as seagrass transplanting, mangrove restoration and rehabilitation projects across the port locality.
