SuriaGroup Blood Donation 2018

In conjunction with Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Week, Suria took a noble initiative and reached out to the community by organizing a Blood Donation Campaign at Wisma SabahPorts, Sapangar. The campaign was open to nearby villagers and government agencies around Sapangar area as well as SuriaGroup employees. It aimed to spread awareness on the importance of blood donation and recognize it as a great humanitarian act as it gives us a new life-saving opportunity to those in need.

Apart from blood donation, SuriaGroup had also invited panel clinic from KPJ Hospital for free medical checkup. The campaign received an enthusiastic response and managed to collect 81 pints of blood throughout the day to enrich the Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s Blood Bank. Successful donors were given goody bag and got a chance to win lucky draws prepared by SuriaGroup. In addition, a token of appreciation also had been given to the most frequent blood donor. Similar to previous year, among the total blood donors were quite a number of first-time donor, this trend is a good opportunity for SuriaGroup to engage more people in the future.

SuriaGroup was led by Datin Mariam Mahmun, Head of Group Corporate Affairs & Communication and assisted by Mr Andrew Chong Ying Khen, Manager of Health, Safety & Environment department.

Sapangar Bay Container Port was announced as the Winner of the Green Port Award System (GPAS) for Year 2019 at the APEC Port Services Network (APSN) Forum held on 24 September 2019 at Cusco, Peru. The award was presented by Ms. Maria Jara Risco, the Minister of Transport and Communications of Peru and Mr. Tan Cheng Peng, the First Vice-President of the APSN Council, witnessed by Mr. Edgar Patino, the Chairman of the Board of the National Port Authority of Peru and Mr. Fei Weijun, the Secretary- General of APSN to representatives of Sabah Ports Sdn Bhd.

SBCP was recognized for the numerous green initiatives taken such as the installation of electrical Rubber Tyred Gantry Cranes, usage of LED lighting and implementation of the
Autostore Terminal Operating System which minimizes paper consumption. The APSN council further noted SBCP’s active engagement in ecological conservation through projects such as seagrass transplanting, mangrove restoration and rehabilitation projects across the port locality.
